Wild Elephants TREK IN TANGKAHAN NORTH SUMATRA
Experience the jungle of North Sumatra on a jungle trek to see wild Sumatran elephants in their natural environment. Your adventure begins with a scenic jeep ride from Tangkahan North Sumatra to Sumber Waras area, taking you walk into the jungle and away from the village. From there, we’ll explore the surrounding jungle with our local guides, keeping an eye out for wild Sumatran elephants and discovering the incredible ecosystem they call home.
SCHEDULE
- 08:30 – Meet your guide and driver
- Meet your local guide and jeep driver in Tangkahan.
- Receive a short briefing about the day’s trip.
- Get ready for an off-road journey toward Sumber Waras.
- 08:45 – Start the jeep journey
- Leave Tangkahan and begin the drive toward Sumber Waras.
- Travel through rural roads, plantations and jungle-edge landscapes.
- Morning – Off-road exploration
- Continue by jeep along rougher roads toward Sumber Waras.
- Make stops at interesting points along the route.
- Your guide will explain the surrounding landscape and local environment.
- Keep an eye out for birds, monkeys and other wildlife along the way.
- Around midday – Arrive at Sumber Waras
- Explore the small jungle-edge community of Sumber Waras.
- Learn about life in the area and its close connection with the surrounding jungle.
- We will do a mini-jungle trek to look for wild elephants
- Wildlife observation
- Explore areas where signs of wildlife and elephant activity may be found.
- Your guide will look for tracks, footprints, feeding signs or other evidence of animals.
- If wild elephants are present and conditions allow, observe them from a safe distance.
- Wildlife sightings are completely natural and cannot be guaranteed.
- Lunch – Sumber Waras
- Stop for lunch in the area.
- Enjoy a simple local meal before continuing the exploration.
- Please inform us in advance about any food allergies or dietary requirements.
- Afternoon – Explore and return
- Spend some more time exploring the area around Sumber Waras.
- Begin the return journey to Tangkahan by jeep.
- Enjoy the off-road drive back through the rural and jungle landscapes.
- Around 15:00–16:00 – Return to Tangkahan
- Arrive back in Tangkahan.
- End of the Sumber Waras Jeep Adventure.

- The tour takes place in a natural environment, so the route and timing can change depending on weather and road conditions.
- Wild elephant sightings are not guaranteed. The elephants move freely through the jungle and surrounding areas, But we have a very high chance of finding wild elephants in this place.
- If elephants or other wildlife are encountered, your guide will determine a safe viewing distance.
- Please do not approach, feed or disturb wild animals.
