Tangkahan Jungle Adventures was started by four local guys who were born and raised right here in Tangkahan — Reja, Putra, Gengken, and Heri.
Reja manages the team, while Putra, Gengken, and Heri work alongside him as guides and helpers. All four know the jungle not from a book, but from growing up around it. They also work as jungle rangers, helping protect the forest and the wildlife that makes Tangkahan such a special place.
Meet Reza Ginting
Reza Ginting was born and raised in Tangkahan, and his connection with the jungle started long before he became a professional guide. He began his journey as a jungle ranger in Tangkahan, learning the forest, its wildlife, and the importance of protecting it.
Looking for new experiences and a different perspective, Reza later left Tangkahan and travelled to Gili Trawangan, where he worked in tourism before moving to Bali. For several years, he worked as a tour guide, gaining experience in guiding visitors from around the world and learning how tourism works in different destinations.
When COVID-19 changed the tourism industry, Reza returned home to Tangkahan. Being back made him realise that his roots were still here, and that there was something more meaningful he wanted to do.
Today, Reza is returning to the path where it all started — supporting his village, protecting the jungle, and helping develop responsible tourism in Tangkahan.
For Reza, guiding is not simply about showing people a beautiful forest. It is about sharing his home, creating opportunities for local people, and helping visitors understand why Tangkahan and its ecosystem are worth protecting for generations to come.
Meet Putra Ginting
Putra is one of Tangkahan’s most experienced local rangers and a senior to Reza. Unlike Reza, who spent several years working outside Tangkahan, Putra has spent almost his entire life here, growing up alongside the forest and learning the jungle through years of experience.
For Putra, being a ranger is more than just a job. It is a way of life. He knows the trails, the river, and the surrounding forest from years of living and working in the area.
Putra is also a husband and the father of a young daughter. When COVID brought tourism in Tangkahan to a standstill, his usual work disappeared. With no visitors and very few opportunities in the village, he had to find another way to support his family. With no other option at the time, he worked as a security guard at a palm oil plantation until tourism began to return.
When things started opening up again, Putra came back to the work he knows and loves — the jungle.
Today, he continues working as a ranger and guide, helping visitors discover Tangkahan while supporting his family and his community. For Putra, protecting the forest and keeping tourism alive in the village are not just about today — they are about creating a better future for his daughter and the generations that will grow up here.
Meet Gengken

Meet Gengken
Gengken has lived in the area around Tangkahan for many years. He is a husband and a father of two children, and today he is an important part of the Tangkahan Jungle Adventures team.
While he is not yet confident speaking English, Gengken plays a big role in making sure our guests are well looked after. He works as an assistant, helping prepare everything needed for the trips. Depending on the day, you might find him preparing food, helping in the kitchen, getting equipment ready, or making sure everything is organised before guests head into the jungle.
Gengken may not always be the person leading the conversation, but he is often one of the people working quietly in the background to make the experience possible.
He is also learning along the way. Working with international guests gives him the opportunity to improve his English, gain new skills, and become more involved in the tourism industry in his own community.
For Gengken, being part of Tangkahan Jungle Adventures is not only about work — it is about creating opportunities for himself, his family, and the village he calls home.
For us, Tangkahan is more than a place to take visitors trekking. It is our home. Our main mission is to help bring Tangkahan forward by promoting the village in a responsible and sustainable way. We want visitors to experience the jungle, meet local people, learn about village life, and understand why protecting this ecosystem matters for the future.
We believe tourism can create opportunities for local people while also giving the next generation a reason to protect the forest. By sharing our home with visitors, we hope to build a better future for the village — where the jungle, wildlife, and local community can grow together.
